The book Criminal Law and New Technologies was released this week to commemorate the 90th anniversary of UERJ’s Law School and the 35th anniversary of its Graduate Program in Law (PPGD). Our partner, Matheus Vellasco, contributed to the volume with a co-authored article with Professor Isabelle Gibson, entitled “Criminal compensation for abusive sentences and the possibility of extending the effects of the decision issued in RHC No. 136,961,” in which they address critical and criminological aspects related to the enforcement of criminal sentences in Brazil.
A work that reflects UERJ’s academic excellence
Under the general coordination of Carlos Edison do Rêgo Monteiro Filho, Cleyson de Moraes Mello, and Gisela Sampaio da Cruz Guedes, and the academic coordination of Patricia Mothé Glioche Béze and Christiano Falk Fragoso, the book brings together more than 40 articles by leading researchers and faculty, offering a plural, critical, and up-to-date view of Brazilian Criminal Law.
With 1,052 pages, 16 × 23 cm format, and published by Editora Processo (ISBN 9786553782938), the volume goes beyond a commemorative record: it is a robust contribution to the national legal debate, reaffirming the public, interdisciplinary, and transformative mission of UERJ’s Law School.
A reference work for legal professionals and scholars
More than a technical collection, Criminal Law and New Technologies reflects UERJ’s commitment to critical training focused on the social and ethical dilemmas of our time. The diversity of topics and the depth of the texts make the book essential reading for researchers, judges, attorneys, public defenders, prosecutors, and students interested in understanding—and transforming—the Brazilian criminal justice landscape.
The publication reaffirms UERJ’s role as a center of legal excellence, committed to teaching, research, and outreach aimed at social justice.
